Name: Lumina Shea Cross Alias: Glimmer Age: 33 Birthday: February 27 Gender: Female Position: Headmistress, Ethics
Family: -Father: Raistlin Cross -Mother: Crystal Logan Cross -Siblings: none -Other: Rhianna Logan Grimm (aunt) Ethan Grimm (uncle) Tobias Grimm (cousin)
Appearance: Lumina can have a slightly nerve wracking appearance for those who are not yet familiar with her, primarily because of her eyes; she is completely blind, and she does not go to the trouble of hiding it. However, she is quite attractive otherwise, with long blonde hair and a fair complexion (and some, after the initial shock, have found her eyes to be pretty in ethereal sort of way). Though she could not necessarily be considered athletic, she is healthy and fit, and she would certainly not be the tallest in a crowd, standing at a mere 5'4”.
Personality: A good way to describe Lumina would be “sweetness personified.” She is one of the most kindhearted people one could ever meet, always concerned with the needs and happiness of others. Because of this trait, many have made the mistake of thinking her to be a pushover, but that could not be farther from the truth. If something Mina firmly believes is questioned, she will not back down; though she will not get argumentative unless it is absolutely necessary. An optomist to a fault, one would be hard-pressed to get Lumina to see the negative side of any situation. It is nigh impossible to make her angry; unfortunately, she tends to wear her emotions right on her sleeve, so if she's upset, everyone will know it. Likes: Soft things, kittens, the sun, being warm, children Dislikes: Cold, the dark, being alone
Powers: Able to absorb light and expel it as energy; can use her power to sense the way light is hitting objects around her, allowing her to “see” to an extent. Other Abilities: She sculpts as a hobby
History: Born to an accomplished research scientist and an artist, Lumina had a well-rounded life from the start. She was taught from a very young age by her mother to keep an open mind throughout life, and having such varied interests between her parents, tiny Lumina gathered an appreciation for a wide range of subjects as she grew. To say that any little girl was loved more would be quite a statement.
Raistlin and Crystal were initially mortified when the doctors informed them that their precious little Lumina had been born without eyesight, knowing what a hard road their daughter had ahead of her. Much to their surprise, however, she adapted quite well, hardly developing any slower than a normal child might. They, in turn, were the ones who had to adjust, growing used to seeing her emotions expressed through her hands and her body language rather than her face.
Lumina was a cheerful child, always looking on the sunny side of a situation. She rarely threw fits and was quite well-behaved, but everything seemed to change when she turned eight years old. Her parents began noticing that any time the child experienced any kind of severe emotion, the lights in the house would flicker; occasionally going out entirely. The girl would be perfectly happy and energetic whenever the sun was out, but she would become cranky and irritable any time it was dark, or rainy, or even if the clouds were covering the sun. She often cried at night when left alone in her room.
What they did not know was that little Lumina was beginning to manifest her mutant powers. She was happy because her body resonated with the light from the sun, therefore she was unhappy when it went away. And her newfound “vision” had given her the unfamiliar ability to sense darkness, something she discovered right away that she did not like at all.
The situation became apparent one afternoon when Lumina was with her mother in their home art studio, learning to sculpt pottery (or, more like making a mess). Crystal happened to comment, as they finished shaping their bizarre creations, that she wished it didn't take so long to bake the clay. Sweet, little Lumina wanted nothing more than to make her mother happy, and what she did next was completely out of her control; all of the energy from the sun and the lights that had been building up in her body was released in a bright flash, and when Crystal was able to see properly again, the two of them found that their sculptures were completely dry. In fact, as it turned out, they were more than a little overdone.
Both Raistlin and Crystal initially reacted in the normal manner: panic. However, where Crystal's panic quelled into the accepting love that only a mother can give, Raistlin's reaction was quite different. The scientist in him wanted to know just how these powers of Lumina's worked, and how they manifested themselves. He wanted to make an experiment of his own daughter.
Crystal would have none of it. She whisked her daughter away, leaving her in the care of Rhianna, Crystal's youngest sister. For several months the child lived with Rhianna, her husband Ethan, and their son, Tobias. They did everything they could to be a comforting haven of safey and happiness, but it was a very traumatic and unhappy experience for the small girl to bear. Once she began to recover, however, she made close friends with her cousin Tobias, and the two spent a good deal of time together even after her departure from the Grimm house.
Once the divorce papers were finalized and everything was sorted out, Lumina moved back in with her mother. The two were quite happy, but it soon became clear that the child needed a more appropriate education. It was at this time that she was enrolled at Sodalitas Academy, and the girl excelled in most of her studies. She was a favorite among her professors, primarily for her sweet demeanor and upbeat outlook on life.
After this, Lumina went on to attend a university, getting her degree in History and Philosophy. For a time she taught off and on at Sodalitas, usually working as a teacher's assistant, or occasionally teaching on her own. She was very good with the children, and seemed to be quite skilled at getting the very best from almost all of them.
In spite of this, it was a great surprise to Lumina when, upon the retirement of the previous headmaster, she was asked to take on the position. Though she was not told at the time, many faculty members at the school concluded that her sunny (no pun intended) disposition was just what was needed in such dark and uncertain times. The woman humbly accepted the offer, and has been headmistress at Sodalitas for a successful two years.
